It’s been a busy couple of decades but one thing that is helping us get some time back is our (relatively) recently launched LP870 Nanosecond LED Pulser. We’re now on Version 2, which improves further on the original’s performance achieving typical 10–90% rise/fall times of 2.2/1.3 ns. This makes the LP870 suitable for testing even some of the fastest photodetectors.

LP870 LED Source
We designed the LP870 as a general-purpose high-speed light source ideal for testing photodiodes, APDs, SPADs, and SiPMs. In most setups, its serves as an infinitely fast optical source perfect for characterizing transient response or bandwidth.
While 870 nm is invisible to the human eye, it sits in the overlapping Silicon and InGaAs spectral sensitivity, making it useful across a wide range of receiver technologies.
The LP870 is packaged in an extruded aluminum enclosure and connects to a pulse source with a bulkhead mounted, diecast brass BNC connector making these rugged and reliable lab partners.
Available at hobbs-eo.com for $250.
Grab one for your lab setup, they’ll pay back the investment in saved debugging time, better measurements, and fewer headaches.
